The Piercing Chill of an Alpine November

This November came in hopeful then quickly descended into discouraging. disheartened. Fatigued, vulnerable, and spent. Such were the early days. Days we needed in order to adjust. To remember, to acknowledge. To start to repair.

The rest of the month afforded me a few weeks of quiet introspection and observation. I found solace in the old things: music, art, film; appreciated the reward of completing simple tasks, calmly and well. “What peace there may be in silence.”

Here are a few slices of life from my November. Thanks for following along.

Intriguing take on an Edgar Allen Poe at Penny Seats in Ann Arbor, energized by stellar performances in an intimate black box setting.
Full cord (wsg Wilson Thicket) at The Ark in Ann Arbor. Stunning bluegrass musicians — five stars, highly recommend.
The Whiskey Charmers at Alpino Detroit on election night. I was incredibly grateful to have this distraction.
Original take on whatever happened to Robin Hood’s band of merry men in middle age. Staged in the round and a world premiere written by a friend, performed by several familiar and talented faces. Penny Seats is killing it this year!
Thanksgiving in Chicago was great and all, but it’s the girls’ nights I really look forward to. Great to do a night out on the town with my sister and niece. I’d also never even seen this movie, so all the jokes were new for me! We had a blast.
Capped the month with another show at The Ark in Ann Arbor, to see Jo Serraperre and friends, wsg Michelle Held. Absolutely lovely songstresses in one of the best venues on the planet. Thank you ladies for soothing my soul. More of this please.

And so it goes, and so it goes.
