Music, music, more music, theatre, and more theatre. It’s a hard-knock life.
I was caught off-guard in the most wonderful way to discover that my favorite keys player was booked for our company party at Sexy Steak in Detroit. Get thee to a Jarrod Champion event if you can. It’s a real treat. The amazing songwriting stylings of Steve Taylor, Annie Bacon, and Tom Alter at the new Alpino Detroit. A pricier menu than my norm, but good listening room vibes and fun excuse to splurge a bit.Another Tom Alter gig, this one just down the road from me at Apothecary Espresso and Coffee.Checked out a second stage theatre, Grosse Pointe Theatre, thanks to one of my former cast members directing one of their dream shows. There was a display out front where you could add the name of someone you’ve lost (the show centers around a family grieving the loss of a child). It was a small healing moment to pin Dad’s name up with the rest. This blog is public so I’m refraining from posting photos of the fam without their consent — but we had box seats to Moulin Rouge at the start of the month, then Child #1 and I had second row seats to the opera upon which Moulin Rouge was based. Highly recommend the double-feature approach — it revealed some fun nuances in both pieces that we wouldn’t otherwise have noticed.
