Not to be confused with the band Mercury Salad which I blogged about recently, I had the recent pleasure of meeting a friend at one of our favorite pre-pandemic spots on Michigan Ave: the Mercury.
One of the absolute best places to get a turkey burger, this Corktown location is probably better known for its beef (made from brisket, chuck, and sirloin — and hand pattied). All poultry / meat comes from local sources, their fries are always fresh, and the boozy milk shakes are to die for, if you’re into that sort of thing.
The ambiance is also fantastic — original murals covered in 1930s-’40s collector-item Mercury dimes, malt-shoppy style photos on every wall, and other fun vintage delights that make it very difficult to spend less than hours in one of their well-kept, comfortable booths having amazing conversations with your best friends.
It’s good to be back.
