Every once in awhile, I like to do a quick self-scan and see how I’m emotionally handling the inevitable twists and turns of my creative projects. Directing a theatrical piece is no exception. It may actually be the rule.
Today seemed like a good day for such a check.
I think it’s safe to say, I’ve reached the point in directing a show that feels like driving on a highway, straight into the setting sun, over icy roads, one hand on the wheel and the other trying to dig into my purse for my prescription shades so I can swap them out for my eyeglasses without taking my eyes off the fishtailing vehicle in front of me.
It’s also safe to say — I’m having a wonderful time.
