It’s time for these beauties. Because it’s been awhile since I’ve continued my Van Gogh obsession in these blog parts, and because it’s no longer Valentine’s Day so I don’t feel so cheesey about it.
Vincent painted this and other still lifes while recovering from his infamous mental breakdown “incident”. In his letters to brother Theo, he expressed this time period as a happier one for him than previous, and that he was feeling oh so much better now.
Fun fact: he originally painted the petals pink. We can just barely tell, since the pigment has dramatically faded over time. I wonder if he knew it would. I imagine he likely did.
